The China Pathways Programme is designed for young people, generally between 18 and 25, who want the benefit of a China experience and the acquisition of Chinese language and business skills for an unrivalled personal development and career enhancement opportunity. In a globalised world, people who are able to demonstrate knowledge and experience of the world’s fastest developing economy will be at a major advantage in the employment market. Major employers are increasingly looking for ‘added value’ items on CVs when they select from thousands of new graduates each year.

Our 19 week programme with optional, additional, one month work experience enables students to master the basics of Chinese and to function in the work place. However, it is possible to study for a shorter or longer period. The course can be combined with travel to other parts of China, East Asia or to Australia.
You will study and live on the campus of the Beijing Languages and Culture University – the leading Chinese institution for language study

Postgraduate and Gap Year students

Our programme is particularly attractive to new graduates who may wish to stay on in China to take advantage of employment opportunities after completing the programme, or to gap-year students before entering university.

Minimum Entry requirements.
Minimum age 18 at the start of the programme and must have completed high school education.

Chinese Language Course

Chinese Language comprises a significant element of the China Pathways Programme. It is taught at the Beijing Language and Culture University, China's leading language institution, by experienced, native-speaker tutors. You will learn speaking, listening, reading and writing in Mandarin. The language programme takes place every weekday morning and comprises a total of 20 hours study per week.

Business and Chinese Culture Course

This part of the programme, designed by and unique to China Pathways, is delivered for us by 5 of BLCU's key staff on the BLCU campus. The programme is taught in English. Details of the staff and their specialist areas can be seen on the 'About us / Programme Team' page.

The business and culture programme takes place on two afternoons per week and comprises a total of 4 hours study per week.

Executive Mandarin

Work Experience Opportunity

This additional 4 week option is available for those following the 19 week programme, thus extending it to 23 weeks in total and also as part of the 8 week programme.

Work experience is an ideal way to utilise the skills and knowledge gained during the 19 week programme and to considerably enhance your CV.

Seminar Programme

Unique to China Pathways, for each programme we arrange a series of seminars given by range of highly successful practitioners based in Beijing, from both the Chinese and the expatriate communities, which aims to provide expert insight into approaches to Communications and Business practice in China.

The seminar sessions are enhanced by the insightful personal stories of the speakers, together with pertinent observations and advice they can offer. The approach is relatively informal and is aimed at developing participants’ understanding of modern China.

The seminar programme also enables programme participants to gain access to invaluable work experience opportunities in and potentially beyond Beijing.

Some of our previous speakers:
Karen Sun: Founder and Chief Executive of Lusun Wyatt.
Chris Baron: President and CEO of CJB-China Ltd, and former Managing Director of the British Chamber of Commerce in China.
Richard Margolis: Regional Director, North East Asia, Rolls-Royce International Ltd.
Tony Conway: CEO of Beijing ECAS Co Ltd., an Education Counselling and Advisory Service.

The British Chamber of Commerce in China

Links with the British Chamber of Commerce in Beijing are an integral part of the programme, allowing students to get first hand experience of the practicalities of doing business in China. There are regular seminars delivered by local and expatriate members of the business community delivered at the city centre offices of the BCCC. In addition the BCCC organises 2 evening training events each month as well as a monthly social evening.

China Pathways' 19 week students are registered as Young Professional members of the BCCC giving access to these events and the networking opportunities they provide.
