Our China Pathways 19 Week Programme combines training in language, business and culture, with seminars at the British Chamber of Commerce in Beijing delivered by members of the local and expatriate business community. There is also a one month work experience option in a local, UK based or a multi national enterprise at the end of the programme and an integrated excursion programme.

* The programme is one semester and will observe all public holidays as determined by the Chinese Authorities. There will be a minimum of 18 taught weeks. The public holidays and non-teaching days will constitute approx 5 days.

One month work experience

At the end of the 19 week programme students will have the opportunity to work in a Beijing enterprise for 4 weeks. This is an optional part of the programme but one which has potential major benefits for future career prospects and CV building.

Work Experience

Our 19 week programme is professionally managed and includes regular personal support from our locally based English-speaking staff. The programme combines Chinese language and culture (including business culture).

Importantly, there is an option to gain an additional 4 weeks of work experience in a business enterprise operating in China, either in a UK based, multi-national or Chinese company.

The Chinese Language Programme

A professionally delivered language programme will enable you to study Chinese Language for 20 hours each week.

All four skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening will be integrated into the course from the start of the programme but the emphasis at first will be on speaking so that you can begin to use Chinese with local people from day one.

All our teachers of Mandarin are native speakers, all with a BA and many with Masters Degrees.

Student centred classes (maximum class size of 20) will enable participants to:
  • Develop an understanding of spoken and written language
  • Develop the ability to communicate effectively in Chinese in speech and writing
  • Develop an knowledge of Chinese grammar and the ability to apply it
All classes will be taught between 8.00am and 12.00 pm each day Assessment

As well as continuous assessment through class tests there will be a mid-course exam of two hours as well as a final examination. Students can also take the HSK test, the Chinese Government’s test for Chinese as a second language. This can be taken at Beginners, Intermediate or Advanced Level.

Beijing Languages and Culture University

You will study and live on the campus of the Beijing Languages and Culture University – the leading Chinese institution for language study.

The Seminar Programme

Unique to China Pathways, for each programme we arrange a series of seminars given by range of highly successful practitioners based in Beijing, from both the Chinese and the expatriate communities, which aims to provide expert insight into approaches to Communications and Business practice in China.

The seminar sessions are enhanced by the insightful personal stories of the speakers, together with pertinent observations and advice they can offer. The approach is relatively informal and is aimed at developing participants’ understanding of modern China.

The seminar programme also enables programme participants to gain access to invaluable work experience opportunities in and potentially beyond Beijing.

Speakers include:
  • Karen Sun: Founder and Chief Executive of Lusun Wyatt.
  • Chris Baron: President and CEO of CJB-China Ltd, and former Managing Director of the British Chamber of Commerce in China.
  • Richard Margolis: Regional Director, North East Asia, Rolls-Royce International Ltd.
  • Tony Conway: CEO of Beijing ECAS Co Ltd., an Education Counselling and Advisory Service.

There are regular seminars delivered by local and expatriate members of the business community delivered at the city centre offices of the BCCC. In addition the BCCC organises 2 evening training events each month as well as a monthly social evening.

China Pathways' 19 week students are registered as Young Professional members of the BCCC giving access to these events and the networking opportunities they provide.
